Educator. Coach. Writer.
My name is Joel and I’m hopelessly curious about the world of elite sports and the pathways athletes take to get to the top.
My curiosity with Korean athletes was first developed while I was researching the world’s top golfers. While working on a project for Canada’s national golf team, I was tasked with finding out how players broke into the top 100. The women’s side was dominated by Korean golfers. Korea’s system and style of developing athletes was so unique we concluded we had nothing tangible to learn from them. That stuck with me.
I later became a physical educator and worked in various countries around the world. I worked with youth in Spain, lectured in Sport Psychology in Australia, and taught Sport Science in Malaysia, before moving to an international school in Korea. Through my years of working abroad, I gained appreciation for the world class level of focus and drive Korean athletes poured into learning their craft.
I hold a Master’s degree in Kinesiology and am a passionate teacher and coach. This is a space where I share my learnings and research as I continue to chase after that curiosity.
